It is of vital importance for adults to teach young children the accurate way of reading right from the start. Failing to do so will result in young children having to unlearn the inaccurate way of reading. The unlearning and relearning processes will waste young children and parents’ time, energy and money. The guiding principle and method adopted by the Intelligent International Phonetics (IPS) Course enable the children to learn the skill of speaking, reading, pondering over and writing ENGLISH – accurately and fluently. View it as a whole, the programme is beneficial to the development of the children, especially in the aspects of physiology, intelligence and emotions.

Most parents share the view that it is by no means easy to teach their children to master the English language. It is therefore very important that the children should be taught the correct form of English pronunciation at the early age. To neglect or overlook this significant “link” will deprive the children of their opportunity to enjoy learning English. It would even create a situation of fear where learning English is concerned.

Intelligent International Phonetics (IPS) Course covers, among others, perfect pronunciation training, test on listening ability and recognition of derivatives. The children will save themselves from reciting from memory every single English word, doing away the old- fashioned method of learning.

The foundation of English is on its grammar and grammar is based on English words. The learning of English words depends on reading and the skill of reading is by pronunciation. Without correct pronunciation during the process of learning English, children will have to spend more time in reciting from memory. The introduction of phonetic education is therefore aims at guiding the children a correct path to learn English in a relaxed manner and to cultivate their interest in the subject.

The Intelligent International Phonetics (IPS) Course has the following special features which will enable the children:
1) To learn the international phonetic symbols such as

a. Vowels -- e.g. / æ /, /Λ/,
b. Diphthongs -- e.g. / ∂u /, / e∂ /
c. Consonants -- e.g. / b /, / p / , / k /, / s /

2) To understand the relationship between the international phonetic symbols and the English alphabets.

For example:
a)  / a /     = a, ar
     / ba /   = bar
     / fa /    = far
     / ka /   = car

3) To understand the relationship between the international phonetic symbols and the spelling of words.

For example:

a)  / æ /     = a          b) / ∂u /       = ow              c) / Λ /      = u
     / tæ /    = ta              / b ∂u /    = bow                / tΛ /     = tu
     / tæp /  = tap           / b ∂u l /  = bowl               / tΛsk / = tusk

4) To speedily look for the correct pronunciation of words from a dictionary.

Children are inevitably face competition in time to come. It is our hope that through the Intelligent International Phonetics (IPS) Course, more children will benefit and be able to equip themselves with the basics for a promising future.

Intelligent International Phonetic Programme is more than the conventional spoon-feeding method with rigid content. Other than providing lively essays with different levels for students in the learning of English, this programme has also included the following themes:

A) International Phonetic Symbols
We teach International Phonetic Symbols (IPS) in our English course to help the pupils in their pronunciation. Whenever they come across some new words, they can look up the dictionary to know the pronunciation.

B) Flash Card & Games
Through the active participation of language learning related games and flash cards, certain important information of language learning can be imparted to the children hence helping them to remember better.

C) Grammar
In view of the importance of grammar in language usage, we have specially designed a series of grammar books for our pupils. The books follow the latest UPSR format. Besides, there are many challenging and practical language exercises to enhance pupils’ performance. They should be able to build a strong grammar foundation through a variety of grammar exercises.
